The 2020 Census data will determine the number of seats each state gets in the House of Representatives and will affect how districts are redrawn in 2021. Up to two Illinois congressional seats are on the chopping block.

Data affects how $675 billion per year in federal funds will be spent on important public projects like roads and schools. $1 billion of federal funding for Illinois is on the line. It’s estimated that each missed person costs Chicago $1,400 a year in federal funding.

Marijuana laws update

In 2018, as legalization of recreational use of marijuana for Illinois and Chicago was first being debated, LWV Chicago agreed to support a study of the issue in cities and states that had already moved for legalization.
